The Who and Why

I’m not a professional cook or a home organizer. I am a professional communicator, with decades of experience on the local, state and national level. I’ve learned that I love to impart learning and confidence to friends and family. And, it’s my friends and family who’ve encouraged me to undertake this journey. They believe I have a lot to offer, and I think they might be right. 

 

I’ve also spent decades figuring out how to make a better, tastier, healthier and more comfortable life. It’s not the fanciest. It’s neither the most expensive or frugal. Not the most time intensive or the least. I can confidently claim that it’s above average, and it seems to really work. Why should you learn to cook, organize and clean better? Because a lifetime of experience has taught me that doing those things well leads to greater overall satisfaction with life. It frees you from indecision and the resulting chaos. When that happens, you’re better able to pursue new adventures and opportunities. 

 

The What and How

First: To inspire you to make better, informed decisions, based on best evidence and practices. Second: To gain the essential ‘smarts’ to make better decisions on shopping for food, making food, cleaning and organizing your space and your daily life. In essence, living.

 

My goal is to impart a healthier, tastier, organized and holistic approach to living that can be personalized to your changing needs, skill level, preferences and circumstances. There is no one-size-fits-all recipe here. I want you to become confident enough to cook and live without the rigid structure of a ‘recipe’. Recipes are the wrong way to learn. I tried it that way. It didn’t really produce the results I was seeking. I now believe that learning skills, waking up your brain, and viewing the ingredients of a dish, a home or a life through different lenses leads to knowing which ‘recipes’ will work best for you. You’ll be more confident and creative. You’ll be able to create solutions on the fly. And, be right enough about your decisions most of the time.

You'll probably notice that my cooking is Whole food, Plant-based, No oil - WFPBNO. I was a vegetarian, but then discovered Forks Over Knives and was bowled over by the evidence-based sense of it all. I never looked back. My health - and my husband's - improved dramatically. We lost weight effortlessly. We're saving money on groceries, and eating better than ever. So that I might better understand the WFPBNO way of cooking, I took and passed the Forks Over Knives Ultimate Cooking Course offered by the Rouxbe Professional Online Culinary School. I highly recommend it.

 

Finally, I’m going to do some of the legwork for you. Tapping the global brain, I’ll research best practices, give you solid resources to learn more, and even bring in the occasional ‘expert’.
